Year 9 Additional Language Courses

     
         
         
  Spanish


This course is an introduction to Spanish as a foreign language and consists of two language lessons per week. It is a chance to experience a European language at Key Stage 3. Students are exposed to a wide variety of structures and topics that provide them with a good practical knowledge of Spanish for use as a tourist and also as a basis for GCSE Spanish in Years 10 and 11. Students will need to take this course in order to study Spanish in Year 10.

Japanese

This course's main purpose is to give students a chance to experience another Asian language.
The Year 9 Japanese course introduces and develops mainly basic grammar, listening and oral skills. Students are expected to handle all of Hiragana (Japanese characters).
The topic areas covered include: describing and defining things, time, prices, likes and dislikes, where things are, travel, directions, and some verbs.
The course books used are: Speak Japanese Book I, Japanese for Young People, and Wakuwaku Nihongo Listening.
