In the GCSE Mandarin course you will learn to speak, write, and understand the national language of the People's Republic of China. The aims of the course in Chinese leading to GCSE are:

  • to develop an awareness of the nature of language and language learning
  • to acquire the skills and attitudes which will form a sound basis for further study, work and leisure
  • to promote learning skills of a more general application e.g. use of information technology,
analysing and drawing inferences, recognising attitudes and emotions and summarising, reporting and explaining
  • to develop students' understanding of themselves and their own culture
  • to offer insights into the culture and civilisation of other countries
  • to encourage positive attitudes to language learning and to other cultures and civilisations
