Blue Tree, Green Sky
‘Blue Tree, Green Sky’ is an organization created to construct a bridge between our school curriculum and our role and understanding as students in an ever-changing world. We believe that the purpose of education should reach beyond achieving maximum success in examinations. Therefore, our aim is to promote innovative thinking at Island School.
Our primary objective is to invite external speakers to share their personal stories or to discuss topics, which they are passionate about. Past speakers include: Pindar Wong, Brett Free and Nury Vittachi. This year, we invited Anuradha Vittachi, the founder of the OneWorld Network to discuss how we as students, can help solve our globe’s most pressing issue – our worsening natural environment. We also had writer Xuxi, a Chinese-Indonesian native of Hong Kong speak to students about what it means to be a global citizen in relation to Hong Kong. She has also been deemed by the New York Times as a "pioneer writer from Asia in English".
Throughout this school term, the team have also been working on another project, which we hope will increase student awareness of current global news issues. More information about this event will be released shortly, so keep an eye out for it!
Guided by Mr. Stevens, this year’s team members are Anais Ross 12N, Joyce Wu 12D, Myron Lam 12W, Danette Chan 12W, Kimberly Pierrepont 11N, Marina Ferrer 10F, Lauren Engel 11N and Jack Ho 11E.
